The Incas – Ancient People of The Andes

Two centuries before the Spanish discovery of America, ancient Incas of Peru, conquered an area that stretched from the southern border of present-day Columbia to central Chile. This vast empire centered on the main city Cuzco, located high in the Peruvian Andes mountains. The Inca domain encompassed the coasts and mountain regions of Bolivia, Ecuador and the northern tips of Chile and Argentina. The Incas originally called themselves “capac-cuna” which means great or glorious ones.The Inca Communal SocietyThe Inca society was a social pyramid that functioned as a communal living arrangement. A highly intelligent people, Incas built bridges and developed more than 10,000 miles of new all-weather roadways. The Incas used a mnemonic device call the “quipu” as a writing implement. Art of the Incas was depicted as austere. Goldsmithing, cutting of semi-precious stones and silversmithing was the specialty of the Incas. Inca engineering and structural design was grandiose.
