Edwin Rodriguez, a manager who made history by accident

By admin | August 27, 2010

Edwin Rodriguez laughs when he is mentioned fleetingly as was his career as a player in the majors : just 22 at-bats and 10 games spread over four years .

“They tell me I was only a cup of coffee in the majors and all that, ” said Rodriguez, who this week completed its second month as manager of the Florida Marlins .

Rodriguez made history when on June 23 took over the team, the first driver in Puerto Rico in the majors.

You could say that Rodriguez was in place and time.

Fredi Gonzalez ‘s dismissal , his predecessor in office, came just days before the Marlins were playing a regular season series against the New York Mets in Puerto Rico.

It appeared that the club would appoint Bobby Valentine as manager, but the negotiations failed, and Rodriguez received the endorsement to run until the end of the campaign. Boston Red Sox Tickets at Fenway Park
