My View On “The Weekend Interview with Bill Gates: Was the $5 Billion Worth It?”

I was with you until the third paragraph. The standard tests are a big part of the problem now. The money schools receive are geared to these standard tests. As I said before, the public school system needs to be administered by the university system in each state. Local control is a choke hold on the system. And, yes, teachers need to know the topics they are teaching and education. Unfortunately, the higher education system makes getting a degree in education the easiest degree to obtain. My children’s English teacher in high school so prepared her students for college that her students tested out of Freshman English in over 95% of her students that went on to college. She knew her topic and expected the students to learn. There were no exceptions and no excuses. They stepped up and did what was expected of them.
